Grandma Ruth’s Brownies

Ruth Coon

Grandpa Coon said Ruthie used to make these brownies all the time while she was in her prime. She would make them for her choirs and neighbors all the time and was well known by them. We still think of her today whenever we bite into one of her special brownies.

2 squares butter or margarine

2 C sugar

4 eggs

4 squares dark baking chocolate-melted or

1 cup cocoa powder

2 ½ C flour

2 tsp. vanilla

2 C nuts

Frosting

3 T. cocoa powder

4 C. powdered sugar

1/3 sq butter

1/3 C canned milk (warm)

Cream butter sugar and eggs. Add chocolate and mix well. Add flour a little at a time (it gets really thick). Add vanilla and nuts. Pour in a greased and floured 10 X 15 cookie sheet (bar pan). Bake at 375* for 20 minutes. Take out of oven and immediately frost while still warm. Let cool and cut into squares.
